Stephen Harper's 2004 letter to the Governor General

12/02/2008

Stand up for Canada

12/02/2008
from Conservative Party

Let the people speak

Two months ago Canadians voted in a general election.  They made a clear choice.

Stephen Harper was given a strengthened governing mandate to address the global economic crisis.

Canadians did not give Stéphane Dion a mandate to lead Canada.  He was personally rejected by voters just as he was subsequently personally rejected by his party.

Nor did Canadians give the Liberals a mandate to form a coalition with the NDP.  In fact, the Liberals explicitly promised there would be no coalition with the NDP.

And they certainly did not give either the Liberals or the NDP a mandate to govern with the Separatists, the very people who want to destroy Canada.

Yet, yesterday, in a shocking display of undemocratic arrogance, a socialist-separatist driven coalition announced that they will try to overturn the results of the election and seize power without first going back to the voters.

The new socialist-separatist driven coalition is an attack on Canada’s democracy as the proposed leader of this unelected, illegitimate, coalition remains Stéphane Dion, whom Canadians would still reject as Prime Minister were another election held today.

The new socialist-separatist coalition is an attack on Canada’s economy – as it would empower NDP – whose discredited left-wing ideology is so risky that even the Liberals call it “economically damaging”.

And the new socialist-separatist driven coalition is an attack on Canada itself.  For no responsible national leader would ever give power to a group that wants to destroy one of the most peaceful and prosperous nations ever to have existed.

It is time for Canadians to stand up against backroom deals that would usurp the elected government without the people’s consent.

It is time for Canadians to stand up against coalitions with discredited socialists that would put our economy at risk.

It is time for Canadians stand up against alliances that would provide a veto to the separatists who would destroy our country.

It’s time to Stand up for Canada.

It’s time to Let the people speak.

Take action NOW:

Open Letter to Progressive Canadians

12/02/2008
from Liberal Party

Monday’s events are of unequalled historical significance – Parliament has chosen to place its confidence in a cooperative government, and will vote non-confidence in the current one. As you know, Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion and the Liberal Caucus have reached across the aisle and come to an agreement to form a cooperative government with the NDP, which will enjoy the support of the Bloc. This move is a direct response to the Conservative Government’s inaction on the economy.

No mandate for Liberal-NDP-Separatist Backroom coalition

12/01/2008
from Conservative Party

On October 14, 2008 Canadians rendered a clear judgment in the Federal Election.

Stephen Harper and the Conservatives promised strong, certain leadership to protect Canada’s future in a time of unprecedented turmoil.

Canadians passed judgment on Stephen Harper when they awarded the Conservative Party a strengthened mandate.

In the same election Stéphane Dion and the Liberals promised a massive new carbon tax that would strangle Canada’s economy.

Canadians passed judgment on the Stéphane Dion and the Liberals who received their lowest public support since Confederation.

In the same election voters passed judgment on Jack Layton and the NDP who once again peddled and outdated socialist ideology and put thousands of jobs at risk by driving up taxes by tens of billions of dollars.

Canadians passed judgment on Jack Layton and the NDP who were relegated to a distant fourth in the House of Commons.

Voters offered no mandate to Stéphane Dion and the Liberals to govern the country.  They offered no mandate to Jack Layton and the NDP to influence the economy.

Voters offered no mandate for the Liberals and NDP to form a coalition government – and in fact, the Liberals ran against such an arrangement.

And voters certainly offered no mandate for the Liberals and NDP to form a formal coalition with the separatist Bloc Quebecois  - a movement dedicated to the destruction of the county.

Yet that is what the opposition are promising.

A government led by Prime Minister Stéphane Dion.

The socialist NDP running the economy.

And Bloc Quebecois having a veto over all policies while they continue to destroy Canada.

It is the opposition’s choice to oppose the government.  It is their choice to embrace Quebec Separatists.  But not with out a mandate.

The Liberals, NDP and separatist must first face the Canadian voters.  Otherwise any coalition will be an illegitimate regime without any mandate to govern.

Secret deal exposed

11/30/2008
from Conservative Party

In a call with NDP caucus members and senior staff, Jack Layton privately admitted that the NDP has had a secret - and longstanding - deal with the separatist Bloc Quebecois – a deal pre-dating the Government’s recent Economic and Fiscal Update (EFU).  The NDP provided the date, time, call-in number and conference call code to the Conservative Party.

  • For the NDP, toppling Canada’s Government is not about the economy or the Government’s EFU.  The EFU was merely a trigger to execute a longstanding secret deal between the NDP and Quebec separatists.
  • The NDP and the Quebec separatists are attempting to do through secret negotiations what they’ve been unable to do at the ballot box:  win power and impose their agenda on Canadians.
  • Just as the Liberals do not have a mandate to form a coalition with the NDP after campaigning explicitly against such a coalition, the NDP certainly does not have a mandate to implement a secret deal with a party that wants to destroy Canada.
  • How can the Liberal Party – the party of Laurier and Trudeau – allow itself to be played by the NDP in this way?  Was Stephane Dion aware of this secret deal with Quebec separatists when he started talking to the NDP?
  • The opposition has every right to defeat the Government.  They do not, however, have the right to impose a coalition they campaigned against and a secret deal with Quebec separatists without the consent of Canadian voters.

KEY QUOTES

"…nobody really imagined that it would be possible for the Bloc Quebecois, the Liberal party of Canada ever to enter into any kind of a discussion around the future of the country and it turned out that we were the glue…" – Jack Layton (Download mp3)

"BQ stability issues, worry about BQ potentially being off-side, we're taking that very much into account.  We have numerous strategies designed to deal with it, I actually believe they're the least of our problems, but in case I'm wrong, let's just say we have strategies, this whole thing would not have happened if the moves hadn't have been made with the Bloc to lock them in early, because you couldn't put three people together in one, in three hours.  The first part was done a long time ago, I won't go into details…” – Jack Layton (Download mp3)

"The coalition for Canada, I love the idea, it could be a deal-breaker for the Bloc (laughter) so if we don't go, we call it "The Coalition for Canada and Quebec," (lots of laughter).  Well, welcome to the real world of....  That's not funny." – Jack Layton with laughter and comments from numerous unidentified participants (Download mp3)
